Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Napoleon III style, originating in 19th-century France, is characterised by eclectic revivals of earlier historical styles, particularly Louis XV and Louis XVI motifs. Furniture from this period frequently features gilding, detailed wood carving, and decorative upholstery intended for formal entertaining spaces.

These chairs were generally constructed from solid hardwoods like beech, which was then carved and covered with a gesso layer prior to leaf gilding. The frames contained webbed seats and coil springs, upholstered in fine silk brocade, damask, or printed cotton fabrics.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-carved construction marks, natural oxidation of the metallic finish, and small cracks or wear revealing the underlying gesso layer. Examination of the frame underside often discloses period joinery, early webbing, or original brass castors.

A pair of giltwood salon chairs can serve as statement accent seating within a modern living area, dressing space, or bedroom alcove. Placing ornate carved frames against plain, neutral backdrops creates a refined contrast between historical and contemporary aesthetics.

Avoid applying water, polish, or liquid solvents to giltwood surfaces, as moisture damages the delicate gesso ground. Remove dust using a dry, soft-bristled brush, and keep the timber frames away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking and flaking.
