Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century Dutch chests of drawers frequently feature bombe or contoured fronts, ornate brass escutcheon plates, and decorative carved aprons. Influenced by earlier Baroque and Rococo forms, these pieces prioritise substantial timber construction and distinctive silhouettes.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcases, accompanied by cast brass handles and keyhole escutcheons. Internal drawer linings were typically fashioned from solid oak or softwoods using hand-cut dovetail joinery.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, uneven hand-cut dovetails inside drawer boxes, and natural surface patination. Original cast brass hardware will show mild surface oxidisation and irregular fitting marks consistent with hand manufacturing.

A contoured mahogany chest functions well as a focal point in an entryway, bedroom, or living area. Complementing the dark timber with contemporary artwork, clean-lined table lamps, or neutral wall palettes creates an effective visual contrast.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or fading. Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to protect the original finish.
