Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hip flasks originated in the 18th century among the gentry as portable vessels for spirits during outdoor pursuits. By the early 20th century, sterling silver flasks became standard personal accessories, contoured to fit comfortably against the body inside a jacket pocket.

Traditional high-end hip flasks were constructed from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring a gilded interior to prevent liquid from reacting with the metal. Many designs incorporate a hinged bayonet cap mechanism to secure the contents.

Authentic British silver flasks feature standard assay office hallmarks stamped into the metal, detailing the makers mark, silver purity standard, assay office location, and date letter. Inspecting these hallmarks confirms the age, origin, and silver content of the piece.

An antique silver flask functions effectively as a decorative accent on a bar cart, sideboard, or within a styled bookcase. Grouping it alongside period glassware or vintage bar accessories enhances traditional barware displays.

Clean the exterior gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish to remove tarnish without scratching the metal surface. For internal maintenance, rinse with warm water and allow to dry thoroughly, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
