A good and large figure of a child cradling her pet dog

A lettered ribbon on the base titled “GO TO SLEEP” sets the scenario of this lovely tender moment of a young girl cradling her dog and willing him to sleep.

A beautiful figure which would suit a variety of rooms in the finest of homes. This beautiful piece is in perfect condition having survived 150 years without damage, staining or abrasions due to over cleaning.

Introduced in the 1840s, Parian ware is an unglazed porcelain developed to imitate carved marble at a more accessible cost, named after the Greek island of Paros known for its white marble.

It was crafted using a high proportion of feldspar, cast in liquid slip moulds, and fired at high temperatures to achieve a matte, vitreous finish.

Authentic pieces display a smooth, marble-like texture with detailed moulding, sharp definition in drapery and facial features, and occasionally maker impressions or registration marks at the base.

Position the white figure against dark painted walls, integrated within a curated bookshelf display, or atop a marble mantelpiece to create architectural contrast.

Dust regularly with a soft brush, and clean deeper grime using mild detergent diluted in warm water applied carefully with a soft cloth, avoiding full submersion.
