Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian bow-fronted chest of drawers is characterized by its convex, curved front facade designed to soften room corners while providing functional storage. Originating in the late eighteenth century and remaining popular through the Regency era, these pieces often feature caddy tops, flame mahogany veneers, and decorative wood crossbanding.

Pieces from this period were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or pine frame carcasses lined with secondary woods like oak or pine. Key decorative elements included satinwood or rosewood crossbanding, hand-cut dovetail joints, brass oval plate handles, and bracket feet.

Authentic period chests exhibit hand-cut, irregular dovetail jointing inside the drawers, original timber shrinkage along drawer linings, and natural oxidisation on the underside. Original brass hardware will show subtle hand-casting marks and genuine age-related patination.

An antique chest can be integrated into modern spaces by pairing its warm timber tones with neutral wall palettes, modern artwork above the piece, or contemporary table lamps to create a curated, layered aesthetic.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer movement.
