FAQs

Rummer glasses were introduced in the late 18th century as large drinking vessels for spirits, punch, and toddy. The square lemon squeezer base was produced using press-moulding techniques popular in Britain between 1780 and 1820.

Georgian rummers were hand-blown using heavy lead glass, with wheel-engraved or cut decoration applied to the bowl. The distinct square foot was created separately using a two-part press mould and fused to the stem collar while hot.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-made irregularities, minor mould wear on the underside of the foot, high density from lead content, and natural surface wear consistent with age along the base edges.

These geometric-based glasses function well displayed on a drinks trolley, arranged inside a glazed cabinet, or set on a dining table for entertaining.

Antique lead crystal must be hand-washed in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding dishwashers, thermal shocks, and abrasive materials that could compromise the glass surface.
