Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian chests of drawers from the mid-to-late 18th century are characterised by symmetrical proportions, rich mahogany timber, and classical construction methods. They typically feature cockbeaded drawer edges, brass swan-neck or batwing handles, and bracket feet.

Primary exteriors were constructed using Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its dense grain and durability. Secondary timbers for drawer linings and rear backboards typically consisted of Scots pine, oak, or deal.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary timbers, and natural wood shrinkage along the drawer bases. Look for original brass cast hardware with threaded posts and cast iron cut nails.

A dark mahogany chest serves as an effective anchor piece in hallway or bedroom schemes. Interior designers balance the rich timber tones by pairing the chest with contemporary artwork, neutral wall colours, or modern ceramic accessories.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year using a soft cotton cloth to preserve the original surface patina. Keep the furniture away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators to prevent veneer movement and timber splitting.
