Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency style pedestal cabinets emerged during the early nineteenth century in Britain, influenced by classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian architecture. They feature clean symmetrical silhouettes, flame mahogany veneers, reeded pilasters, and refined geometric mouldings.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period primarily utilised Cuban or West Indian mahogany, valued for its stability, rich figure, and deep colour. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were used for drawer linings and internal framing, complemented by flame mahogany veneers on cabinet doors.

Authentic nineteenth-century Regency pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass or iron hand-forged locks, and hand-planed secondary wood interiors. Natural oxidisation and patination on the mahogany, along with slight hand-carved irregularities in the reeding, also indicate period authenticity.

A pair of Regency pedestals can function as substantial bedside cabinets in a bedroom or as flanking storage in a formal dining room or hallway. Their warm timber tone contrasts effectively against contemporary neutral walls and modern artwork.

To care for historic mahogany veneers, dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage, drying, or fading of the timber finish.
