Rare Oxford Lavender Gilt & Enamelled Green Glass Scent Bottle, Circa 1860

Description

This is a very unusual gilt and enamelled green glass large size attar perfume bottle. These type of scent bottles are also known as an Oxford Lavender or Throwaway , as they were sold containing a sample of perfume and were intended to be thrown away after use. This particular one is a more unusual green enamelled example. The four faceted sides with moulded patterns and heightened with naive enamel and gilt scroll decorations. The everted neck fitted with a gilt glass "Penny drop" stopper.

Dimensions:

Length: 19cm / 7.3 inches

Width: 2cm x 1.5cm / 0.6 inches x 0.5 inches.

Condition:

Very good.

No damage to glass.

Gilt and enamel decorations rubbed at places, commensurate with age and use.
