Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency sarcophagus cellarette is an early nineteenth-century wooden storage chest specifically designed to hold wine or liquor bottles. Its tapered form is inspired by classical Greco-Roman sarcophagi, reflecting the Neoclassical design influences prominent during the Regency period.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, valued for their rich grain and durability. The interiors were often lined with lead or zinc to contain ice, while brass hardware, lock plates, and zinc liners were standard functional additions.

Authentic Regency cellarettes demonstrate hand-carved details such as gadrooning, lion paw feet, or acanthus leaves, along with original mortise and tenon joinery. Evidence of zinc or lead linings, hand-cut dovetails, and period-appropriate locks also aid in identification.

An antique cellarette functions well as an accent piece in a modern dining room, hallway, or study. Placed in a corner or alongside a console table, it serves as an intriguing architectural anchor or an alternative low storage box.

Maintain mahogany cellarettes by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent the timber from drying, warping, or fading.
