Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-to-late 19th century, decorative brassware became prominent in Victorian interiors due to advances in casting techniques. Mirrors from this era frequently incorporated Revivalist design movements, integrating ornate classical motifs, floral embellishments, and cherub cartouches.

Victorian mirror frames were typically constructed from cast brass or bronze, mounted over a wooden or metal backing framework. The reflective panels consisted of silvered glass plates, which replaced earlier mercury-gilded methods during the mid-19th century.

Authentic 19th-century pieces generally exhibit age-appropriate oxidisation and natural patina within the recessed details of the casting. Additionally, period items often feature hand-assembled screw fittings, heavier cast metal, and light desilveration or foxing along the edges of the glass plate.

An ornate metal mirror functions as a focal accent when positioned above a hallway console table, a fireplace mantel, or integrated into an eclectic gallery wall. The metallic finish adds warmth and textural contrast alongside contemporary minimalist or traditional furnishings.

Dust the cast metal frame regularly using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or gentle brush to clear dirt from recessed details. Avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip historical patina, and clean the glass plate using a damp cloth while preventing moisture from reaching the silvered backing.
