Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Turners chair, or thrown chair, is a traditional seating design made entirely from lathe-turned wooden spindles joined to form a three-legged triangular frame. Originating in the medieval period, the style experienced significant revivals in the nineteenth century.

These chairs are crafted from dense hardwoods such as oak or ash, using mortise and tenon joinery to connect complex turned spindles, a flat triangular seat, and a raised crest rail.

Authentic period examples demonstrate subtle variations from hand-lathe turning, pegged joinery, natural shrinkage across timber grain, and genuine surface patination around wear points such as armrests and foot rails.

A Turners chair functions as an architectural accent piece, suited for placement in a hallway corner, study alcove, or alongside minimalist contemporary furnishings to highlight its geometric silhouette.

Keep the timber clean by dusting with a soft dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to feed the wood and protect the original wax patina.
