Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 18th and 19th centuries, pier cabinets were low, narrow display pieces designed specifically to occupy the pier wall space between two tall windows. During the Victorian era, they evolved into decorative storage pieces crafted to showcase prized books, porcelain, and curio collections.

Victorian pier cabinets were typically constructed with solid timber frameworks finished in fine figured walnut, mahogany, or rosewood veneers. Additional construction elements included hand-cut glass panels, cast brass or bronze ormolu mounts, and interior fabric linings such as velvet or silk.

Authentic pieces from the mid-to-late 19th century display characteristic signs of age, including slight irregularities in the hand-cut glass, natural patination on brass mounts, and hand-chiseled mortise and tenon joinery. Veneer shrinkage cracks and age-related wear on the original interior linings also indicate genuine age.

A pier cabinet functions well positioned in a narrow hallway, framing a fireplace alcove, or situated beneath a large wall mirror. Modern styling involves curating art books, ceramics, or glass objects across the interior shelves to create a focal point without overwhelming compact spaces.

Walnut veneers require protection from direct sunlight, excess moisture, and direct heat sources to prevent fading or warping. Regular cleaning with a dry microfibre cloth and periodic application of a natural beeswax polish preserves the timber patination and seals the grain.
