Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Moorish style furniture originated in North Africa and the Middle East, becoming popular in Western interiors during the nineteenth-century Orientalism movement. It is defined by intricate geometric parquetry, bone or mother-of-pearl inlays, octagonal forms, and arched mashrabiya motifs.

These tables typically utilise dense hardwoods such as walnut, olive, or fruitwood as the primary carcass. Decorative surface treatments feature intricate hand-cut inlays of mother-of-pearl, bone, ebony, and contrasting fruitwood marquetry.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut, slightly irregular inlay tesserae and traditional hide glue construction rather than synthetic adhesives. Look for hand-carved joinery underneath and subtle variations in the patination of the wood and mother-of-pearl.

Place the table alongside clean-lined seating to create a focal point through textural contrast. Its geometric detailing works well in eclectic spaces, reading nooks, or paired with neutral upholstery to accentuate the intricate woodwork.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent buildup around the inlay edges. Avoid chemical cleaners, liquid solvents, or high-humidity environments, which can cause the wooden substrate to expand and loosen delicate mother-of-pearl or bone pieces.
