A Scottish Silver and Agate Specimen Brooch Circa 1890

This beautiful piece of Scottish late 19th century jewellery has been made in a Celtic style from unmarked silver that has been tested.

It is in the form of a shaped circular shield, which is divided and set with eight segments of specimen Scottish agate in various colours with a central domed silver roundel. The thin agate is cut into segments which have been veneered onto a black slate panel to stabilise the collection, which is then mounted to the framework of the silver brooch with four heavy silver claws, which can be seen on the reverse of the brooch.
