P A Oxley Antique Clocks & Barometers has dated this Mahogany Moonphase Longcase Clock to the Georgian era.
There is also a Latin phrase to the arch 'Mensis Perpetual Dies.
The 8 day movement also features the rare use of a pinwheel escapement.
The magnificent cabinetwork is veneered with bookmatched mahogany and with fiddleback mahogany to the main truck door. The trunk also with quarter reeded pillars mounted with brass Doric capitals. The base with a central circular design bordered with a thick ebony inlay and solid ogee feet.
The hood with finely reeded pillars mounted with Corinthian capitals, an unusual top pediment with an inlaid Sheraton flower and ebony edge inlay throughout. Also with three matching brass finials and a band of Kingwood inlay to the arch.
A rare and possibly unique example.
