Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian reverse glass print is an eighteenth-century decorative artwork created by transferring a paper mezzotint print onto glass, removing the paper backing, and painting colours onto the reverse side.

Artisans adhered an un-inked or freshly printed mezzotint face-down onto glass using varnish, soaked away the paper fibres until only the ink impression remained, and then applied oil paints behind the image.

Authentic pieces feature period glass with natural imperfections such as air bubbles or wavy textures, signs of hand-applied paint layers on the back, and original period publication lines at the bottom.

Position the print on a feature wall, above a sideboard, or within a gallery wall alongside contemporary line drawings to create contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.

Dust the front glass gently with a dry microfibre cloth and keep the object away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, or moisture, which can cause the paint backing to lift or flake.
