Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French bronze candlesticks from the late 18th and 19th centuries often incorporate classical figures, such as putti or mythological allegories, paired with cast floral or urn-shaped sconces. They frequently contrast dark patinated bronze sculpture with mercury gilding, known as ormolu, mounted on marble or metal plinths.

These candlesticks were typically crafted using lost-wax or sand-casting techniques for the patinated bronze figures, paired with chased gilt bronze elements. Bases were carved from imported marble, such as Griotte or Rouge Royale, and secured with internal threaded iron rods.

Authentic examples demonstrate crisp hand-chasing on the gilded surfaces, natural age-related patination on the dark bronze areas, and heavy cast construction. Threaded assembly hardware underneath usually reveals hand-cut threads or hand-finished square nuts rather than modern modern machine-cut fittings.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a modern marble mantelpiece, a minimalist sideboard, or a dark wood console table creates a refined focal point. Pairing them with contemporary artwork or neutral backdrops establishes an engaging visual contrast between classical sculpture and clean modern lines.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or camel-hair brush to prevent debris buildup in detailed relief areas. Avoid chemical polishes, solvent cleaners, or water on ormolu and patinated bronze, as these can strip historical gilding and original surface patinas.
