Brief Description:

This is a rare and exceptional 17th-century Dutch Delft Hexagonal Knob Vase with Chinoiserie decoration.

The museum-quality piece is of Hexagonal and baluster form with a knobbed neck.

It is a magnificent piece to behold and a remarkable survivor from the 17th century.

The fabulous piece is embellished with hand-painted landscape scenes with Chinese figures in each of the segments.

A truly remarkable vase and a fantastic investment piece.

Signed to the base iMES 2 (Joris Jansz. Mesch, owner of 't Fortuyn 1661-1674).

Biography: Joris Jansz. Mesch, owner of 't Fortuyn 1661-1674

Pottery painter (plateelschilder) Joris Janszoon Mesch bought a house called De Fortuyn beside the Lange Geer canal in 1661. It was here that the pottery of the same name was established. There were four potteries along this canal, with De Metaale Pot next door to Mesch’s pottery.

The fire inspection report (1668) reveals that ’t Fortuyn had only one kiln. After Mesch died in 1674 the pottery passed to his widow Judith Philipsdochter van Velsen. As was customary, she continued to use the IMES factory mark that had belonged to her deceased husband.

The piece is offered in an overall beautiful original condition, other than the normal, very small amounts of chips that are associated with a piece from the 17th century.
