Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in 18th-century France, Rococo gilded bronze sconces are characterised by asymmetrical scrollwork, naturalistic foliage motifs, and decorative sculpted figures such as putti or cherubs. These fixtures were designed to reflect candlelight via gilt surfaces, creating ambient illumination in period interiors.

Fine wall appliques of this era were typically cast in bronze using the lost-wax method and finished with mercury gilding, known as ormolu. The metalwork features hand-chased surface details on foliage, drapery, and figures to achieve texture and dimensional depth.

Authentic pieces generally display crisp hand-chasing, substantial weight, and natural signs of age such as minor oxidisation or subtle wear to the gilding on raised edges. Look for historical mounting assemblies, threaded rod constructions, and minor hand-casting irregularities rather than uniform modern machine casts.

Pairing these detailed metal fixtures against dark, matte accent walls or textured plaster creates visual contrast. Flanking a central mirror, artwork, or fireplace mantel provides a balanced focal point that bridges historical craft with contemporary design schemes.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry horsehair brush or microfibre cloth to remove debris from intricate crevices. Avoid harsh chemical polishes, abrasive cleaners, or water exposure, as these can strip original gilding and alter natural patinas.
