Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Rococo style wall lights are defined by asymmetrical curves, flowing C-scrolls, and elaborate foliate motifs such as acanthus leaves. Originating in the 18th century during the reign of Louis XV, these fixtures typically features twin or triple sweeping arms designed to hold candles or modern bulb equivalents.

Traditional French wall sconces were predominantly cast in bronze or brass using the lost-wax technique before being gilded. High-status pieces utilized fire-gilding (ormolu), where a mercury-gold amalgam was applied to the metal surface and heated, creating a durable gold finish.

Authentic period pieces show hand-chased surface details, sharp tooling on leaf design edges, and historical casting marks or maker stamps on the backplate rear. Age-appropriate surface wear, minor oxidisation in recessed crevices, and hand-threaded assembly screws also indicate genuine period construction.

Twin-arm wall sconces can be mounted on either side of an entryway mirror, above a fireplace mantel, or along a hallway to frame architectural features. The warm metallic tones of gilded brass contrast effectively against muted or dark paint finishes in modern spaces.

Dust gilded surfaces regularly using a clean, soft dry paintbrush or feather duster to prevent grime accumulation in intricate carved details. Avoid liquid brass polishes or abrasive chemical cleaners, as these can strip original gilding layers and damage historic patination.
