Charming Victorian Green Man Carved Oak Davenport Desk

Description

-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-

An excellent quality solid oak elaborately carved Victorian davenport.

c1890.

This beautifully carved solid oak davenport desk has a red leather gold tooled sloping writing surface.

The hinged lid opens to reveal an attractive fitted interior, with stationary pigeon holes and single small central drawer, with two matching dummy drawers above.

To the upper is an ornately carved hinged lidded storage compartment, fitted for pens and ink, with shaped letter wracks to the back.

To the right side of the davenport are four solid oak drawers of dove-tail construction with very charming carved Green-Man mask handles. Retaining the original brass locks.

Lovely crisp carvings throughout to this very solid and sturdy quality davenport.

Standing on the original castors.

Good warm rich colour and characterful patina to the oak.

In excellent antique condition, general expected signs of age and use. No key.

The dimensions are taken at highest, widest, deepest points.

Height-95cm. Height to the under-side of the writing slope-60cm.

Width Desk-55cm.

Depth-55cm.
