Description

French Art Deco Clock Set by H Molins-Balleste & Tahou, Lourdes

This clock set is a beautiful example of high Art Deco styling, featuring a spelter figurine of a young woman kneeling with outstretched arms holding two birds.

The clock is signed on the rear of the figurine. It is difficult to read but research states H Molins-Balleste, a Spanish sculptor born in Barcelona who later moved to Paris. Some of work from the Art Deco era is signed as Molins and some is signed as Balleste.

The figurine sits on an onyx and grey marble pedestal that houses the working eight day movement.

The highly stylised numerals are set onto a gilt dial.

The clock chimes on the hour and half hour and is running well. It has been checked over and cleaned in our workshop.

The original key and pendulum are supplied, along with the matching garniture / tazzas, all in very good condition.

The movement maker is Tatou of Lourdes, South West France.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Art Deco clock garnitures typically feature a central mantel clock flanked by two matching decorative side pedestals or urns. Originating in the interwar period, these sets reflect the eras focus on geometric symmetry, bold angular forms, and modern figurative sculpture.

These clock sets were predominantly constructed using multi-coloured marble, onyx, alabaster, and slate. Sculptural elements were commonly cast in bronze or spelter with patinated finishes, paired with brass bezel clock faces.

Authentic pieces exhibit distinct geometric architectural bases, hand-cut stone or marble slabbing, period-appropriate typography on the clock dial, and cast metal figures signed by recognised period sculptors or foundries.

Position the complete three-piece garniture along a fireplace mantelpiece or atop a sleek console table to create a balanced focal point that complements both contemporary minimal and classic Art Deco-inspired decor.

Clean the marble or onyx surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals or acidic cleaners that erode the polished finish. Metal figures should be dusted gently, while mechanical clock movements require periodic servicing by a qualified horologist.
