Antique Edwardian Quality Inlaid Mahogany Wall Hanging Corner Display Cabinet

19th century
Description

A finely made Edwardian mahogany wall hanging corner display cabinet of elegant proportions and refined decorative detail. The shaped and moulded cornice is surmounted by an openwork scroll pediment centred by roundel medallions with delicate marquetry inlay. The astragal glazed door retains its original glass and opens to shelved interior display space, ideal for the presentation of porcelain or small objets de vertu.

The cabinet is constructed in well-figured mahogany with boxwood line inlay throughout offering both subtle contrast and a pleasing sense of lightness to the form. The shaped apron and chamfered sides add to its refined silhouette, while the overall patina demonstrates a gentle and well-preserved history of careful use.

Dimensions:

Height: 108.5 cm (42.7 in)

Width: 52.2 cm (20.6 in)

Depth (front to back): 29 cm (11.4 in)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910), these cabinets drew inspiration from 18th-century Sheraton and Hepplewhite designs, featuring slim proportions, delicate stringing, and glazed doors.

Craftsmen predominantly utilised mahogany timber, accented with satinwood or boxwood string inlay, flame mahogany veneers, and glass panes framed by geometric glazing bars.

Key identifiers include hand-cut joinery, brass fittings, fine satinwood line inlay, geometric astragal glazing, and traditional pediment details such as swan-neck cresting.

Positioning the cabinet in an underutilised corner allows display of porcelain or collectibles, providing functional vertical storage while adding historical context to contemporary spaces.

Position the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber movement, dust with a soft cloth, and apply natural beeswax polish along the grain annually.
