Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced during the British Regency era (circa 18111820), hall chairs were placed in entryways and foyers to accommodate visitors. Designed as non-upholstered timber seating, they typically featured carved backs and hand-painted family crests or armorial devices to demonstrate household lineage.

These chairs were primarily crafted from high-density Cuban mahogany or oak, featuring solid wooden seats without upholstery to prevent wear from damp outdoor clothing. The painted crests were rendered using oil pigments directly onto the prepared timber surface.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, a rich timber oxidation beneath the finish, and light age-related craquelure on painted surfaces. The timber seats often exhibit slight irregular hand-planing marks on the undersides.

Position the piece individually in an entryway, landing, or alcove as a functional decorative object. Pair it with neutral wall finishes and minimalist console furniture to highlight its carved architectural silhouette.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish along the wood grain twice yearly. Avoid placing the chair near direct heat sources or prolonged sunlight to protect the painted details and prevent wood shrinkage.
