Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, a hall chair is a hard-seated, unupholstered wooden chair designed primarily for placement in the entrance hall of grand country houses. Armorial versions feature a painted family crest or heraldic coat of arms on the back panel.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak to withstand frequent handling by visitors. The back panels were often carved or painted with oil pigments, while front legs were turned on a lathe and rear legs were gently splayed for stability.

Authentic Regency hall chairs typically display classical proportions, solid timber flat seats, and turned or reeded front legs. Look for natural patination on the mahogany, historical hand-carved joinery, and age-appropriate wear to any hand-painted heraldic motifs.

Position the chair in an entryway, hallway, or stair landing as a standalone decorative accent piece. Pair it with neutral wall palettes, clean-lined console tables, or structured architectural lighting to let the historic timber grain and painted motif act as a focal point.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the timber from cracking or the painted crest from fading.
