We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III longcase clocks, produced between 1760 and 1820, typically feature rich mahogany casework, refined proportions, and either painted or engraved brass dials. Design elements often include architectural pediments, such as swan-neck or scroll tops, fluted columns flanking the hood, and bracket feet.

The exterior cases were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers over an oak carcass. Internal movements utilised brass plates, steel pinions, cast iron weights, and lead pendulum bobs, while dials were made of sheet iron painted with enamel or silvered brass plates.

Authentic eight-day clocks possess two winding holes on the dial, driving twin weight mechanisms for timekeeping and striking functions. Period authenticity is indicated by hand-cut movement gears, original cast weights, correct hand-painted dial details, and period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on the casing.

A longcase clock serves as an architectural anchor in entrance halls, stair landings, or dining rooms. Placing the clock against a neutral or boldly painted backdrop allows the dark mahogany grain and mechanical details to function as a focal point within modern or eclectic spaces.

The clock case requires regular dusting and periodic application of beeswax to preserve the wood finish. The mechanical movement should be wound weekly, kept plumb and level, and professionally cleaned and lubricated by a horologist every five to seven years.
