Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Console tables originally developed in 17th-century France and Italy as structural wall-mounted tables. By the 19th century, free-standing console and pier tables featuring heavy marble tops and detailed timber carving became standard architectural features in formal hallways and reception rooms.

Nineteenth-century tables were predominantly crafted using hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, often fitted with hand-carved decorative spandrels and scroll supports. Tops were commonly cut from solid slabs of natural white or coloured vein marble.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-planed timber work, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and natural hand-cut edges on the underside of the marble slab. Look for uneven wear patterns on base rails and aged patina on unpolished timber surfaces.

Place the table against a plain accent wall in an entryway or hallway to highlight its carved silhouette. Pair the stone top with modern ceramics, framed mirrors, or minimalist lighting to balance historical detail with contemporary interior design.

Dust the timber framework regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and nourish occasionally with beeswax polish, avoiding harsh chemicals. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner specifically designed for natural stone to prevent staining or etching.
