Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in mid-19th-century France during the reign of Napoleon III, Crapaud armchairs were designed as comfortable, fully upholstered salon seating. Their name derives from the French word for toad, referencing their low, squat profile and padded, rounded silhouette.

Authentic period armchairs featured solid beech or oak frames, hand-tied steel coil springs, natural jute webbing, and vegetable fibre or horsehair padding. The frames were typically completed with carved wood legs and cast-metal or brass castors.

Look for hand-stitched upholstery lining, traditional coil spring construction visible beneath the seat, ebonised or carved hardwood front legs, and original brass wheel castors attached with fitted brass cups.

Position the pair opposite a streamlined modern sofa or flank a central fireplace to create a balanced seating area. Their distinctive silhouette works well upholstered in neutral linen or bold textured contemporary fabrics to contrast with contemporary decor.

Lightly vacuum the fabric using a soft brush attachment to remove dust without disturbing deep buttoning. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood frames from warping and fabrics from fading.
