Malayer rugs originate from the town of Malayer and its surrounding villages in northwestern Iran, positioned between the major weaving centres of Hamadan and Arak. Woven predominantly in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these carpets are celebrated for their individualistic geometric designs, single-weft construction, and rich vegetable dyes.

Traditional Malayer carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for the pile, knotted onto a cotton or wool foundation.
