Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Malayer rugs originate from the town of Malayer and its surrounding villages in northwestern Iran, positioned between the major weaving centres of Hamadan and Arak. Woven predominantly in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these carpets are celebrated for their individualistic geometric designs, single-weft construction, and rich vegetable dyes.

Traditional Malayer carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for the pile, knotted onto a cotton or wool foundation. Weavers utilised the Turkish (symmetrical) knot and natural plant-derived dyes, such as madder root for deep reds and indigo for dark blues, resulting in a durable and lustrous textile.

Authenticity can be determined by examining the reverse of the rug, which reveals hand-tied knots with slight human variations rather than machine perfection. Authentic pieces often display subtle colour variations, known as abrash, caused by small batches of vegetable-dyed wool, along with characteristic geometric medallions and ivory spandrels.

An antique Persian rug can serve as an anchor in contemporary spaces by providing visual weight, texture, and historical depth. Decorators frequently place these geometric carpets over neutral wooden floorboards, pair them with modern minimalist furniture, or layer them atop larger flat-weave natural fibre mats like jute or sisal.

Preserving an antique wool carpet requires regular, gentle vacuuming without the use of a rotating brush or beater bar, which can snag natural fibres. Spills should be blotted immediately with a clean dry cloth, and the rug should be rotated annually to equalise foot traffic and light exposure. Professional specialist cleaning is recommended every few years.
