Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Open salt cellars are small tabletop vessels designed to hold loose salt before the invention of anti-caking agents enabled modern salt shakers. During the Edwardian era, these vessels were standard features of formal dining service, allowing guests to take salt using a small spoon or fingertips.

Edwardian table salts were commonly constructed using a combination of heavy lead cut glass or crystal bases fitted with sterling silver collars, mounts, or linings. Pure silver bowls were also produced, often fitted with blue glass liners to protect the metal from chemical corrosion.

Authentic pieces feature British hallmarks stamped onto the metal rim or collar, consisting of a makers mark, town mark, fineness mark (such as the lion passant for sterling silver), and a date letter corresponding to the Edwardian period between 1901 and 1910.

These small vessels can be integrated into modern dining settings to serve boutique sea salts, spices, or condiments. Alternatively, interior designers place them on sideboards, dressing tables, or vanity trays to store delicate jewellery pieces such as rings.

Salt should be emptied after use to prevent corrosion of the metal components. Wash the glass carefully by hand using warm water and mild soap, ensuring silver collars are wiped dry immediately and polished gently with a dedicated silver cloth to remove oxidisation.
