Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, cabinetmakers embraced historicist revivals, incorporating 17th-century Jacobean and Renaissance design elements such as heavily carved friezes, spiral-turned barley twist legs, and gold-tooled leather writing surfaces.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid oak or walnut timber, featuring hand-tooled leather inserts on the writing surface, along with mortise and tenon joinery and brass hardware.

Authentic period examples display deep hand-carved frieze decoration, clear hand-turned leg profiles, original hand-dovetailed drawer construction, and natural age-related wear across the timber and leather tooling.

Position the table in a study, library, or hallway alongside clean contemporary lighting and understated modern art to establish a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern aesthetics.

Dust the oak framework regularly with a soft cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish along the grain, while using a specialised leather conditioner on the inset surface to maintain flexibility and prevent drying.
