Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian overmantel mirrors were designed specifically to sit atop a fireplace mantlepiece, featuring wide bases, arched tops, and decorative plaster or giltwood frames to reflect light and enhance room proportions.

19th-century frames were typically constructed from pine or lime wood, layered with composition moulding (compo), coated in gesso, and finished with thin gold leaf or gilt varnish over hand-blown glass plates.

Authentic period pieces often feature silvering degradation or oxidation on the mirror plate, plaster cracking consistent with wood expansion, wood-plank backing boards, and hand-worked gilding showing subtle wear.

Position the mirror directly above a chimney breast or place it atop a modern sideboard to introduce architectural height, soft reflected light, and classical contrast within contemporary spaces.

Dust gilt frames softly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or feather duster; avoid using water, chemical polish, or liquid cleaners, as these can dissolve water-gilding and damage delicate composition details.
