A silver caddy spoon is a short utensil designed to scoop loose tea leaves directly from a tea caddy into a teapot. Emerging in the late 18th century alongside the popularity of imported tea, these spoons were designed short enough to fit inside the caddy container.

Most antique caddy spoons were crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked to guarantee metal purity. Silversmiths decorated them using bright-cut engraving, chasing, or filigree work, occasionally incorporating shell-shaped bowls or carved handles.

Authentic Georgian pieces feature a set of British hallmarks, including the monarch profile mark, sterling lion passant, town mark, and specific date letter. Hand-engraved details such as bright-cutting and period monograms also indicate authentic era production.

Display small silver items on a dining room sideboard top or inside a glazed cabinet alongside period glassware. They can also serve as functional salt scoops or sugar servers during table settings.

Clean sterling silver using a soft cloth and a gentle silver polish specifically formulated for antiques, avoiding harsh abrasive chemicals. Store pieces in tarnish-resistant cloth bags or lined cases away from humidity.
