A wonderful rustic antique Heriz carpet with beautiful colours, a refined geometric pattern with detailed leaves, pale blue medallion and soft off white, ivory corners which lifts the whole palette. The warm brick reds are a wonderful natural dye too.  Condition is really excellent, a great wool pile and dating from circa 1890-1900.

Farnham Antique Carpets are specialists in antique decorative carpets, rugs and runners. Varying from antique tribal rugs woven in the Caucasus to classical Persian carpets dating from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century.

Originating from the Heriz region in Northwest Persia during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these carpets were hand-woven by village artisans using durable local wool and distinctive geometric interpretations of classical Persian floral patterns.

Heriz carpets are constructed using a hand-knotted pile of thick wool on a sturdy cotton warp and weft foundation, coloured primarily with natural vegetable dyes that produce deep rust reds, blues, and ivory tones.

Authentic Heriz pieces are identified by their prominent central geometric star medallion, stepped corner spandrels, thick wool pile with a low-to-medium knot density, and a heavy handle resulting from double-weft construction.
