Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency bergere chair is a British armchair design from the early 19th century, featuring an exposed carved wooden frame, woven cane or upholstered sides and back, and deep seating typically fitted with a loose leather or fabric cushion.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period primarily used high-grade Cuban or West Indian mahogany, natural woven cane, brass fittings such as castors and ferrules, and leather or silk damask for upholstery.

Authentic Regency pieces by Gillows of Lancaster and London often feature precise joinery, high-density mahogany, reeded legs, and carved classical motifs like anthemion leaves. Some pieces bear stamped signatures or numerical codes on the drawer edges or frame undersides.

A Regency bergere chair can be incorporated into contemporary spaces as an accent armchair in a study, paired with modern upholstery in a living room, or placed alongside a contemporary desk to create a focal point.

To preserve mahogany and cane furniture, keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber cracking or cane drying. Clean cane gently with a damp cloth, condition leather upholstery with specialist nourishment products, and apply beeswax to the timber regularly.
