Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency drum table, also known as a rent table or revolving library table, is a circular table featuring a deep frieze containing drawers around its perimeter. Introduced in the late 18th century and prominent through the Regency era, these pieces were designed to sit in the centre of a library or study for writing and administrative work.

Regency drum tables were primarily constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, often featuring gold-tooled leather writing surfaces inset into the top. Secondary elements typically include brass hardware, such as ring handles and brass-capped castors attached to splayed pedestal legs.

Authentic 19th-century examples display hand-dovetailed drawer construction, original brass castors, and natural wear to the timber and leather inset. The central pedestal generally transitions into swept, splayed legs with hand-carved detailing such as reeding or scrollwork typical of the Regency movement.

A drum table operates effectively as a focal point in a large entryway, hall, or study. Placed centrally, it functions as a statement desk or display surface, pairing well with contemporary lighting and structured botanical arrangements to contrast its classical proportions.

Mahogany surfaces should be dusted regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and treated periodically with natural beeswax polish. The leather inset requires specialized leather conditioners to prevent cracking, and the table should be positioned away from direct sunlight and heat sources to minimise timber movement and leather fading.
