Imari porcelain is a distinctive style of Japanese export ceramic produced around the Arita area and shipped from the port of Imari. It is celebrated for its rich palette of underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron red, and gilt embellishments.

Pieces were created from local kaolin clay, painted with cobalt blue oxide before firing at high temperatures, and subsequently decorated with overglaze enamels and gold leaf before a second firing.
