Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Edwardian era, furniture makers revived late 18th-century Sheraton designs, characterized by light proportions, geometric lines, and extensive marquetry or satinwood inlay work. These writing desks were crafted to offer elegant storage and dedicated workspace for private studies and drawing rooms.

High-grade mahogany served as the main structural wood, frequently decorated with satinwood, boxwood, or rosewood inlays. Writing surfaces were typically fitted with hand-tooled leather or skiver inserts, and drawers were finished with cast brass drop handles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original brass handles, and solid timber secondary drawer linings. Stamped marks or metal badges from recognized makers, such as Maple & Co, on drawer edges provide verifiable identification.

Position the desk near a source of natural light in a home office or living room, paired with a modern minimalist desk lamp or neutral upholstered chair. The warmth of the polished timber creates a grounding contrast against contemporary wall finishes.

Keep the wood nourished by applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year, wiping along the grain. The leather insert should be cleaned with a dry lint-free cloth and conditioned occasionally with specialist leather balm to prevent cracking.
