Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Queen Anne Revival furniture, popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, combines classical 18th-century forms with Victorian and Edwardian craftsmanship. Key elements include splat backs, cabriole front legs, pad feet, and occasional foliate or shell carving on back panels and knees.

Chairs from this period were predominantly constructed from solid native hardwoods, such as oak, walnut, or mahogany. Frames were joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, often featuring removable drop-in seats upholstered in woven textiles or leather.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished carving, natural variations in oak grain, and period-appropriate frame construction such as corner blocks beneath the seat rails. Look for age-related patination on high-touch surfaces like armrests and crest rails.

Balance the heavy visual weight and rich timber tones of oak chairs by pairing them with modern minimalist dining tables or contemporary lighting fixtures. Neutral wall shades and textured rugs help integrate historic wood carving into contemporary interiors.

Dust timber frames regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve moisture and luster. Keep chairs away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and fabric fading.
