Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II walnut bureau is an 18th-century British writing desk featuring a sloping fall-front lid that opens to reveal a fitted interior workspace, positioned above a chest of graduated drawers. Produced roughly between 1727 and 1760, these pieces are defined by their walnut veneers and traditional Georgian proportions.

These bureaux were typically constructed using solid pine or oak for the carcass, overlaid with book-matched burr walnut or figured walnut veneers. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joints, brass drop handles with backplates, engraved brass escutcheons, and bracket feet.

Authentic George II bureaux feature hand-planed secondary timbers, hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, original brass lock plates, and natural patination on the walnut veneer. Crossbanding or feather banding framing the drawer fronts and fall-front flap is also characteristic of the period.

Position the bureau in a study, living room, or hallway as a functional focal point. Pair it with modern artwork positioned above the frame, a classic brass desk lamp, and contemporary ceramics to balance the detailed grain of the timber.

Keep the bureau positioned away from direct sunlight and active heat sources to prevent the veneer from drying or lifting. Clean the surface with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste annually to maintain the protective finish and patination.
