Kingsdown Antiques has dated this Victorian Silver Claret Jug to the 1870s.

Topped with a thistle-style finial and adorned with vine and scroll motifs, the handle’s sculptural quality matches the grandeur of the overall design.
The inside of the lid and pour spout are finished in a warm gilt tone, often used to protect the contents and enhance the luxurious feel and the lower rim is embellished with a Greek key pattern, grounding the piece in neoclassical aesthetic tradition. The base is marked for the renowned maker ‘Elkington’ – circa 1870.

In good condition – Minor age-appropriate wear to the silver plate; glass is clear with no cracks or chips.
