Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King George III between 1760 and 1820, these clocks typically feature flame mahogany cases, arched hoods with columns, brass or painted dials, and weight-driven pendulum movements.

Cabinetmakers primarily constructed the cases from solid and veneered mahogany, while the internal clockwork incorporated brass plates, steel shafts, cast iron weights, and silvered brass dials.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-engraved brass spandrels, cast movement plates with hand-turned pillars, and maker signatures engraved onto the dial plate or central boss.

A longcase clock serves as a structural focal point in an entry hall, stair landing, or formal reception room, anchoring the space when set against modern architectural panelling or neutral backdrop tones.

Keep the wooden case away from direct sunlight and heat sources, apply high-grade beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, and have the mechanical movement cleaned and lubricated by a qualified horologist every five to seven years.
