Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Whytock & Reid was a prominent Edinburgh cabinetmaking firm known for high-grade craftsmanship, often collaborating with architect Sir Robert Lorimer. Their work frequently adapted 18th-century styles, such as Queen Anne and Chippendale, featuring refined proportions, subtle curves, and high-quality timber selection.

Antique mahogany library tables typically utilise solid mahogany frames combined with fine mahogany veneers and crossbanded borders. Construction details usually include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, solid oak or pine drawer linings, and hand-carved legs.

Authentic pieces often feature stamped maker marks or paper labels inside drawers or on the underside of the frame. Additionally, distinctive design detailssuch as soft pad feet, precise crossbanding, and high-quality internal joineryindicate the makers workshop.

A mahogany library desk can serve as a focal point in a modern home office or library when paired with contemporary leather seating and neutral wall tones. Balance the dark timber with minimalist brass lighting and curated desk accessories to integrate modern and traditional elements.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a beeswax polish annually in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and strong heat sources to prevent veneer lifting or timber shrinkage.
