Description

This is a Rare Georgian Oak Edinburgh Table c1820-40 in the Gothic Revival Style.

This table was solely designed for the Edinburgh Tenaments. It varies from a traditional Pembroke in a number of ways. Pembrokes have two leaves and legs that dont move. Edinburgh tables have one leaf and have two designs of legs.

The purpose of this table is to sit behind a sofa/ settee. It is designed to be a desk and a dining table. The leg configuration is so designed so you don't have to move it you can just get a chair and you can get properly under the table. Likewise if you had guests you could put the leaf up and entertain or eat your meal. This example is my personal table I have had for some years. A house move means I have no space for it. Its a very practical table, you can work and be with the family at the same time.

There was a wonderful lecture on this table by the Furniture History Society about 15 years ago.
