A rare Samuel Raven painted lacquered papier mache snuff box, c.1820.
The circular top depicts a gentleman in a red chair, gleefully eyeing liqueur in his glass with a bottle in hand and another beside him. Signed ''S. Raven'' in red to the lower right. The red ''Samuel Raven pinxt'' inscription is present to the underside of the lid but has worn.
Samuel Raven snuff boxes are exceedingly scarce this is a particularly charming example.
