Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Portrait busts from the early 20th century blend classical sculptural realism with modern stylistic details, capturing contemporary fashions such as tailored neckwear and bobbed hair. Plaster was a favoured medium among sculptors for executing initial models, studies, or finished patinated display pieces.

Sculptors typically poured liquid plaster into multi-piece waste moulds or flexible moulds around an internal metal armature. Once cured, the surface was hand-chiseled for fine detail and coated with painted or bronzed patinas to imitate cast bronze, terra cotta, or patinated stone.

Authentic period pieces display age-appropriate wear, surface patination, and minor abrasions exposing white plaster beneath painted layers. They often feature turned timber bases fastened with historical iron screws or pins, and may bear impressed maker marks or signatures near the base.

Position the bust atop a mahogany console table, fireplace mantelpiece, or bookshelf to act as an architectural focal point. Pairing decorative busts with antique books, brass candlesticks, or framed botanical prints enhances a curated, classic aesthetic.

Dust the surface gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a clean camel-hair brush to prevent scratching the painted patina. Avoid using water, detergents, or chemical solvents, as plaster is porous and moisture can damage soluble surface finishes.
