Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II silver cream jugs from the mid-18th century frequently feature pear-shaped or baluster bodies, double-scroll handles, three cast legs with pad or shell feet, and intricate hand-chased floral or foliate motifs typical of the Rococo movement.

These items were wrought from sterling silver, raised by hand from sheet silver using shaping hammers, decorated using chasing and repousse techniques, and finished with cast elements such as handles and legs soldered to the body.

Authentic period pieces feature a set of struck hallmarks, typically on the underside or rim, including the lion passant for sterling purity, the leopards head for the London assay office, a specific date letter, and a makers mark.

Interior designers often place small silver items on a sideboard tray, inside a glass display cabinet, or styled alongside period ceramics on a dining table to add contrast and metallic texture.

Clean silver using a gentle, non-abrasive silver polish applied with a soft cloth to remove oxidisation without wearing away delicate chasing detail, and store in a dry environment inside anti-tarnish cloth bags.
