Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian Windsor armchair is characterised by a solid wooden saddle seat into which the legs, arm supports, and back spindles are directly joined using round tenons. Originating in regional English workshop hubs such as High Wycombe, these 19th-century chairs feature turned legs, H-stretchers, and shaped top rails.

Traditional Windsor chairs were constructed using a combination of regional hardwoods selected for their strength and flexibility. Elm was typically chosen for the carved saddle seat due to its cross-grained resistance to splitting, while steam-bent ash, beech, or yew were used for the spindles, armbows, and turned legs.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-carving on the saddle seat, wedge-tenon joinery visible where the legs penetrate the seat, and maker marks or initials stamped along the rear seat edge. Genuine Victorian examples also exhibit natural surface wear, patination around contact areas, and slight irregularities in timber turnings.

A Windsor armchair functions effectively as an accent piece alongside contemporary upholstered furniture, bringing warmth and historical texture to a room. Placing the chair in a reading corner, study, or hallway allows its strong sculptural silhouette and timber grain to contrast cleanly with minimalist surroundings.

Preserve the original timber finish by wiping surfaces clean with a soft, dry cotton cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the chair clear of direct heat sources and damp environments to prevent timber movement, shrinkage, or joint separation.
