19th century
Description

A 19th Century English Regency Amboyna Library Table.

This lovely library table is veneered in highly figured amboyna timber which is pale and golden in colour. The top has a fabulous colour and there is a fine crossbanding of coromandel wood. It has rounded corners and there are two drawers in the frieze below with ebony inlay and ebonised knobs. It is supported on dual end supports with baluster turned columns, joined by square sections with applied carved paterae. There is contrasting geometric inlay, of leaf designs, on the side of each support. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency library tables, popular during the early nineteenth century in Britain, are defined by classical proportions, rich wood veneers such as amboyna or rosewood, and subtle ebonised inlay work.

These tables commonly utilised solid mahogany or oak frames faced with exotic veneers like amboyna, frequently accented with ebonised details, brass castors, and hand-cut dovetailed drawers.

Authentic Regency pieces typically display hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass hardware or castors, turned twin-column supports, and age-related wear to the drawer runners and underside.

A Regency library table functions well placed centrally in a home office as a writing desk, or positioned behind a sofa in a living room as a generous console table.

Position the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement, and preserve the finish using a high-quality natural beeswax polish applied with a soft cloth.
